A total of 41 action items are designated for realisation of the Federal Programme for preparation in building and reconstruction of transport infrastructure of the 2018 football World Cup host cities, including 28 action items on objects of airport infrastructure. The article provides an appraisal of progress of airports under construction or reconstruction, outlines occurring problems and measures being undertaken to normalise the situation.

This turning point signifies that the industry is leaving its long-term crisis behind and creates new perspectives for its development. Development and realisation of sectoral strategies, including in the field of air transportation, constitutes one of the most pressing questions in the transport sphere. Unconventional transport systems are increasingly spreading alongside traditional means of transport. Their efficiency owes much to flexible integration into infrastructure and to enhanced automation capabilities. The article, using the example of the Strela elevated transport system, describes the level of automation required for designing an unmanned transport system. Such systems, which do not require large operational expenses, ensure high quality of passenger service and transportation safety.

In short-term perspective, Asian and Pacific region is to play the role of world economic activity's centre and locomotive, offering colossal possibilities for realisation of unique resource potential of Russia's Far East. Last few dozens of years in Russia were marked by expansion of a number of urban agglomerations. One of the most actively developing of these is the St Petersburg agglomeration. At the same time, the region encountered a number of problems, of which overloading of traffic arteries connecting the megalopolis to the adjacent suburban territories of Leningrad Region can be considered the chief one. This situation can be avoided through changing the spatial planning policies on forming and developing transport infrastructure.

Persistent urbanisation trends contribute to population concentration in large cities and to corresponding concentration of motor-vehicle fleet in these cities whilst transport infrastructure lags significantly behind. The article considers problems of providing transport services to the population of St Petersburg agglomeration proceeding from journey time, and analyses the possibilities for using high-speed public transport. A three-level structure of high-speed transport is proposed for a large city.

Economic activity and investment attractiveness of the country are directly dependent on developed air-transport infrastructure and on efficiency of the system for supplying the industry with human resources. The article considers the present state of the civil aviation labour market and outlines main directions for improving the situation. Indices such as number of workers of the industry, demand for flying and maintenance personnel, human resourcing, education quality, salary levels were used for the analysis undertaken.
